Kennewick, Wash. – All Ways Caring HomeCare (AWC) hosted an open house on August 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., located at 515 N Neel Street, Suite C-101, Kennewick, WA. The open house was a way to connect community members, families, and veterans with in-home care resources designed to help people stay independent while giving families confidence in their care arrangements.
The event introduced community members to available assistance programs before a crisis forces the decision. AWC emphasized that seeking help is not a sign of weakness – it’s a practical step toward maintaining quality of life.
Adam Kennedy, a client of AWC, shared how in-home support has transformed his daily experience. Transportation assistance through the program has been particularly life-changing, allowing him to leave his home and build meaningful connections with others.
“I don’t have to rely on my parents. And I get to experience people and get out of the house,” Kennedy said.
For Kennedy, the independence gained through support services extends beyond logistics. He now makes his own plans and participates in activities he previously couldn’t access. His advice to others considering in-home care is straightforward: “Just always ask for help. People are always out there. Ask for help.”

The success of in-home care often hinges on the relationship between caregiver and client. AWC Caregiver Joseph Wagers understands this dynamic firsthand. After caring for his younger brother with autism, Wagers channeled that personal experience into his professional work. Wagers approaches each client relationship with genuine care and respect. “They’re not just some person I take care of. I try to treat them as a friend or family, extended family,” he said.
This philosophy drives his commitment to his clients’ well-being. “I like to see my clients thrive and be happy and not let their disabilities interfere with their fullness of life,” Wagers explained.
Addressing Family Concerns
For many families, inviting a caregiver into their home raises legitimate concerns about trust and safety. AWC Branch Manager Esmeralda Castro acknowledges these worries and works to address them directly.
“There’s no shame needing help, needing a little bit of assistance around the home. We all need it,” Castro said. The organization takes security seriously, conducting extensive background checks on all caregivers. Castro recognizes that allowing a stranger into one’s home to care for a loved one can feel frightening, which is why thorough vetting is a cornerstone of the service.
“I think trusting the person that’s in your home, I could understand how scary it might be to have a total stranger come in and take care of the person that you love or yourself. And that’s why we do those extensive background checks,” Castro said.
